The proceedings encompass all major aspects of structural dynamics by addressing new developments as well as practical and novel applications of dynamical principles to all types of structural and mechanical systems. In particular areas such as ambient vibrations, offshore engineering, experimental methods, bridge aerodynamics, man induced vibrations, multibody dynamics, stochastic dynamics, reliability and earthquake aspects, uncertainty, traffic loads, vibroacoustics, soil-structure and fluid-structure interaction, impact, nonlinear dynamics, structural control, computational methods, damage, system identification, mechanical engineering, wind engineering, etc. Both theoretical developments as well as industrial applications are treated.

The proceedings contain contributions presented by authors from more than 30 countries at EURODYN 2002. The proceedings show recent scientific developments as well as practical applications, they cover the fields of theory of vibrations, nonlinear vibrations, stochastic dynamics, vibrations of structured elements, wave propagation and structure-borne sound, including questions of fatigue and damping. Emphasis is laid on vibrations of bridges, buildings, railway structures as well as on the fields of wind and earthquake engineering, repectively. Enriched by a number of keynote lectures and organized sessions the two volumes of the proceedings present an overview of the state of the art of the whole field of structural dynamics and the tendencies ot its further development.

These volumes from the June 1999 conference include theoretical papers regarding the theory of vibration, stochastic dynamics, non-linear vibration, vibration of structural elements (beams, frames, arches, plates), wave propagation, material properties and noise, and experimental methods in dynamics (volume one); and cover the applications of structural dynamics to the dynamics of bridges, railway and highway track dynamics, dynamics of buildings, ground vibration, wind effects, and seismic effects (volume two). The keynote lectures at the beginning of volume one cover topics such as recent developments in modelling turbulent wind loads and dynamic response of large structures; experimental techniques in dynamics of bridges; and stress and solitary waves in solids.

These proceedings open with the extended summaries of two general lectures by well distinguished scholars, who give an account of the 'past' and the 'future' of structural dynamics. The following five keynote lectures contain important contributions on 5 different basic branches of structural dynamics. The other 143 papers, selected from more than 200 that have been submitted, have been organized into 12 themes that, some unadvoidable overlapping, span from earthquake to wind engineering (two fields of increasing relevance in modern construction) to the study of specific structural systems and elements, to the very rapidly developing applications of active and passive structural control.

The proceedings of the Second European Conference on Structural Dynamics (EURODYN '93), held at Trondhein, Norway in June 1993, to stimulate the exchange of information between various disciplines in science and engineering and various fields of application. Volume 1 (337-X) is divided into sections covering earthquake engineering, soil structure interaction, blast loading, impacts, and basic dynamics. Volume 2 (338-8) contains section on computational nonlinear vibrations, stochastic response, cyclic behavior, system identification, buildings, traffic on bridges and stadia, wind on bridges, wind on towers, coastal and offshore structures, and dams.

 

EURODYN '90, Bochum, Germany, June 5 - 7, 1990

The proceedings cover dynamic effects on building structures caused by seismicity, wind, impact, vibrations due to machines and traffic etc. These effects have become increasingly important for their design. In modern structural dynamics, sophisticated tools have been developed, particularly using variational methods such as Finite or Boundary Element Methods for a better understanding of the structural behaviour, the optimization of the design and the prediction of failure under dynamic loading. Experimental investigations in conjuction with system identification provide the basis to develop and verify theoretical models both for the structure and the material properties. Modern structural dynamics has become, therefore, an essential engineering tool for design and inspection of building structures.
